woman discussing extended residential treatment with therapistExtended residential treatment can help patients who need more time than a residential or inpatient treatment program offers. Addiction is a complex mental health disorder where no two cases are alike. Multiple factors come into play, such as genetics, family history, home environment, and the friends you keep. For those with a severe addiction, extended residential treatment offers continuing inpatient help for patients who needs additional 24/7 care.

At Vertava Health Massachusetts, our extended residential treatment center in Massachusetts offers help to men and women whose addiction demands long-term care. There is no shame in needing additional care for treating your addiction and other mental health disorders. Each person is different in the amount of care they need and will continue at the pace that best suits their symptoms. For more information about extended residential treatment, call 888.655.0289 today to speak with our staff about our extended residential treatment program in Massachusetts.

What is Extended Residential Treatment?

Residential treatment programs come in 30, 60, and 90-day increments. Patients with no co-occurring mental health disorders generally only need 30 days of 24/7 care as most withdrawal symptoms will clear up within 2-3 weeks. The additional time allows patients to focus on the reasons behind their addiction and form coping skills to maintain their sobriety. For the average patient, this can be accomplished within 30 to 90 days.

Extended residential treatment is for patients whose addiction is so severe they need more than 90 days to recover. They will often have a co-occurring mental health disorder hidden behind their addiction and will require additional therapy to help stay sober. Severe cases of addiction can be very debilitating to a person physically and emotionally. Symptoms of severe addiction include:

  • Serious illnesses like heart failure, respiratory disease, and cardiovascular disease
  • Increasing mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and paranoia
  • Unhealthy physical appearance due to gum disease, scarring, weight loss, poor hygiene and nutrition, and insomnia
  • Increasing risky behavior and changes in social circles
  • Lying and stealing from friends and family
  • Losing parental control of children.
  • Unable to hold a job.
  • Jail time
  • Death

At Vertava Health Massachusetts, our extended residential treatment program in Massachusetts offers long-term care for men and women with severe addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders.

What to Expect from an Extended Residential Treatment Program in Massachusetts

Even after 90 days, patients may feel like they cannot handle the stress of daily life and are afraid they will relapse. Extended residential treatment offers a gradual acclamation through sober living homes and continuing behavioral therapy through full-time care.
